The Best Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Bananas are a staple on our weekly grocery list. Lance and I can’t get enough of them, but some weeks we have a few that go brown, and we’ll toss them in the freezer to save for when we make our favorite Chocolate Chip Banana Bread. We’ve made this banana bread recipe a lot! It’s SO good with the chocolate chips, and I’m a huge fan of walnuts – so I always add them in when I have them, but we’ve made the banana bread without walnuts as well. The best part are the bites of thinly sliced bananas you get throughout the bread. There’s something about banana and chocolate together that I absolutely love. Fun fact – my most favorite flavor while working at Ben and Jerry’s was Chunky Monkey (Banana flavored ice cream with walnuts and dark chocolate chunks – YUM!), and I’m still a huge fan. Neither the Banana Bread or the Chunky Monkey Ice Cream will disappoint. I highly recommend them both!

This banana bread is so good served warm with some butter (or cream cheese as Lance likes), but it’s also even better the next day when all the flavors have blended together. I don’t think I’ve found a banana bread recipe I didn’t like, but this one tops them all! I hope you make this delicious Chocolate Chip Banana Bread and enjoy it just as much as I do!

Yield: 8 Servings
Prep Time: 10 Minutes
Cook Time: 50-60 Minutes
Total Time: 1 hour + Minutes

3 Medium Bananas, Divided
1/2 Cup Butter, Melted
1 Cup Granulated Sugar
2 Eggs
2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
1/2 Cup Sour Cream
1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
1 Teaspoon Kosher Salt
1 1/2 Cups All Purpose Flour
1/2 Cup Mini Chocolate Chips
1/2 Cup Chopped Walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9X5 pan with cooking spray. Line with parchment paper on the bottom and up the smaller sides of the pan, and spray again. Set the pan aside.

Mash 2 bananas with a fork in a medium bowl until slightly lumpy. Very thinly slice the last banana and set aside.

In a bowl of a mixer, combine the sugar and melted butter. Add in eggs and vanilla extract and mix until smooth. Add in sour cream, mashed bananas, baking soda, and salt until blended. Then mix in the flour until incorporated.

Fold in the thinly sliced bananas, walnuts and chocolate chips. Pour batter into greased pan. Top with a few extra chocolate chips (optional). Baked at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Cool in pan for 15 minutes and using the sides of the parchment paper, lift the banana bread out of the pan and cool on a wire rack.

Wrap banana bread in saran wrap or store in airtight container for up to 3 days.
