Book Review + My Winter Reading List

It’s no secret that I love to read so much that I even started a book club last summer. In book club we have been taking turns choosing a book to read for the month. I love getting exposed to books I haven’t heard of or that I wouldn’t normally pick up. It’s made book club that much more fun as we are opened up to new authors and genres.

Reading is one of my favorite “me-time” activities. It relaxes me after a long day, but it’s also one of my favorite things to do. There’s always at least 2-3 books that are on my nightstand. Lately I’ve read a couple of books that I’ve really liked, so I though I’d share a book review on them. I would love to hear what you’ve been reading! Let me know any suggestions you have to add to my winter reading list.

The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena

The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena Book

This book kept me up reading. Even though I would have to wake up early the next morning, I couldn’t put this book down! The book is a mystery based in upstate New York. Parents, Anne and Marco, attend their neighbors dinner party and leave their baby, Cora, asleep at home. Since their babysitter canceled, they decided they would check on Cora periodically throughout the night. When Anne and Marco head home in the early hours of the night, they notice the front door ajar and their baby is missing. The investigation begins, and you find out Anne and Marco have been keeping secrets from each other for years. This book keeps you guessing who could have done it the whole time. A must read!

 Modern Lovers by Emma Straub

Modern Lovers by Emma Straub Book

Based in Brooklyn this book is about a group of former band mates who met in college in the 1980s and their children living in NYC in the present day. You’ll discover what went on with the band and the relationship they have with their families now. The book goes back and forth between past and present. The band what such a monumental time in their lives that the past keeps coming up. This book took a little bit to get into for me. It’s the first book I’ve read by this author, but I’ve heard her other books are good.

The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware

The Woman In Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware Book

This book was one of the best books I’ve read in a while. I highly recommend this one! Lo Blacklock, a travel writer, gets the assignment of her dreams. She spends a week on a luxury cruise ship, the Aurora, that holds only a handful of cabins. One night Lo hears a scream and then a splash come from the cabin next door. The problem is everyone is accounted for on the ship. I’ve never been one to read mysteries, but between this book and The Couple Next Door, I’m now hooked on this genre. They are so fun to read, especially when trying to guess what happened. Both books really surprised me!

Truly, Madly, Guilty by Liane Moriarty

This book shares the lives of three families and what happens one night at a back yard BBQ. Sometimes the most innocent moments can change everything. No one thought what could possibly go wrong, but little they knew everything did. I’ve read most of Liane Moriarty’s books and love them all especially My Husband’s Secret, Big Little Lies and What Alice Forgot.

Below is a short list of what I’m hoping to read this winter. If you have read any of the books below I would love to hear your thoughts. I’m excited to get started on reading them!
